You don’t have to travel out of state or across county lines to change your routine and enjoy the summer vacation vibes. Plus, staying close to home will save you money and time. It’s a budget-friendly alternative to an extended vacation, especially if you’re traveling with kids.

The perfect Nassau County staycation itinerary

The best thing about planning a relaxing long weekend right here in Nassau County is that you’ll never run out of things to do. History buffs, nature lovers, and foodies can all find plenty to keep them busy this summer.

Where to stay

For Long Island staycationers looking for the ultimate luxury experience, you can’t beat a stay at Allegria Hotel. The gorgeous hotel offers 4-star accommodations right on the water. The property features an onsite restaurant, bar, lounge, and rooftop pool. Guests can enjoy a fitness center and complimentary yoga classes. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer incredible views of the Long Beach Boardwalk, and you’ll be within walking distance of Long Beach Coffee and Tee. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic weekend with your significant other or the ultimate family beach trip.

Day One: Sun, Sand, and Surf

Nothing says summer like a beautiful day soaking up the sunshine on the world-famous Long Island beaches. Spend hours enjoying the stunning views and the soft, powdery white sand, where there is plenty of space to carve out a little slice of coastal paradise. Nassau County is a prime destination for travelers worldwide due to its gorgeous coastline with hundreds of miles of beaches to explore. Jones Beach State Park, Long Beach, and Nickerson Beach are excellent spots for a relaxing beach day. 

Families with small kids will love the epic playgrounds, splash pads, and sprinkler parks around Nassau County. The Georgia Avenue Park, located on the west end of West Beech Street, is one of our all-time favorites. In addition to fun playgrounds, Long Beach parks include attractions like roller rinks, basketball courts, dog parks, and a skate park.

Morning: Before you hit the beach, head to one of Nassau County’s exceptional brunch spots. Start at The Bungalow in Long Beach for a budget-friendly breakfast burrito. After brunch, hit  the beach to set up your spot. Book your beach rentals ahead of time with Beach Comfort for optimum comfort and convenience. For $45, you’ll have all-day access to two beach chairs and an umbrella for shade. Small groups will love the Family Package, which includes four chairs and two umbrellas for $90 per day. 

Afternoon: After you’ve relaxed in the sun for a few hours, it’s time to get adventurous. Consider taking a surf lesson on Long Beach with Skudin Surf. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Private 75-minute lessons cost $110 per person, and semi-private lessons cost $75 per person. Nothing beats the feeling of the salty sea breeze in your hair and the adrenaline pumping through your veins as you catch your first wave! Consider taking to the friendly seas on a stand-up paddle board or kayak rental from Empire Kayaks for even more fun during your Long Island staycation.

Evening: Once you’ve had your fill of sand and saltwater, spend some time exploring the iconic Long Beach Boardwalk. You can rent cruiser-style bikes from Long Beach NY Bike Rental, or simply take a stroll. Wind down with a delicious dinner at  Five Ocean Restaurant, which serves American-style classics and fresh seafood. Head to Long Beach Brewing Company for some amazing local beers, and stop by Long Island Creamery for a sweet and refreshing frozen treat after a long day in the sun.

Day Two: Shop until you drop

Morning: Enjoy another scrumptious Long Beach brunch. Saint and Second is the spot for organic, local, and seasonal food, with a brunch menu that features mouthwatering selections like Pineapple Upside Down French Toast and Eggs Benedict.

Afternoon:  Explore the charming neighborhoods of Nassau County, checking out local shops and boutiques. Treat yourself to a little retail therapy. You’ll find tons of adorable shops where you can pick up a staycation souvenir. 

The Codfish Cowboy has an excellent selection of men’s and women’s fashion and home decor with a vintage-inspired flare. Rose & Eye is a wonderful spot for beautiful bohemian clothing. Check out the unique boutiques with artisan-made goods and cool surf shops along the way. You’re sure to find something you’ll treasure long after your staycation comes to an end. 

Evening: 

There’s something to suit every palate in Nassau County, but after a long day of shopping, nothing tastes better than a warm, gooey slice of New York Style Pizza. Pizza Row is the perfect place with plenty of mouthwatering restaurants to choose from. After dinner, head back to the Allegria Hotel, where you can unwind and relax in luxury as you take in the views from the rooftop pool while sipping on a cocktail from L’onda Lounge.

Day 3: Arts and Culture

Morning: You won’t even need to leave your hotel to enjoy one of the best waterfront dining experiences in Long Beach. Enjoy the final morning of your staycation with a leisurely breakfast at the Atlantica Restaurant. Take your time savoring the tasty food and the beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean. 

Afternoon: After breakfast, check out Nassau County Museum of Art. It’s one of the best suburban art museums in the United States with an incredible permanent collection and rotating exhibitions housed in a Georgian-style mansion. Carve out plenty of time to explore the grounds which include a sculpture park, gardens, and walking trails. Afterwards you can continue to browse art galleries around Long Beach, or get creative at Earth Arts of Long Beach which offers art classes for adults and kids. When you start to get hungry for lunch, visit Lido Kosher Deli which has the best pastrami sandwiches in town. 

Evening: There’s no better way to wrap up a relaxing staycation in Nassau County than by chartering a luxurious private boat for a sunset tour along the coastline. It’s the perfect way to immerse yourself in natural beauty. Long Beach Charter Cruises offers two-, three-, and four-hour charters that can accommodate up to six guests. Enjoy a late dinner at Speakeasy, which serves homestyle American cuisine in a vintage-inspired space, as you savor the final moments of your epic staycation in Nassau County.
